Obituary of Mary Miscik

Mary Miscik, 96, of Calumet, passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014. She was born July 31, 1918 in Calumet, a daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine(Durkatch) Krynicky. Mary attended St. Florian Elementary School, United. She married Andrew Miscik on August 16, 1936 and was predeceased by Andrew in 1978. Mary was a devoted mother to four sons, Thomas, Joseph (Shirley), Dennis (Karen), and Robert. She was grandmother (Gram) to Joe Miscik, Jr., Carey (Miscik)Yoder, Dave Miscik, Ryan Miscik, Adam Miscik, and Natalie Miscik and great grandmother to Jenna Yoder, Andy Yoder and Matthew Miscik. Mary was the last surviving member of her family which included sisters Dora Fritz, Elizabeth Matsko, Anna Staschack, Josephine Urbanowski and Rose Olenchock; brothers Anthony, Michael, Nicholas, Joseph, John and Felix Krynicky. Mary operated a beauty shop in her home for many years. Also for many years she helped prepare food for parish functions at St. Mary's Byzantine Church, Trauger where she was a devout member. A baseball and football fan, she made numerous trips to colleges and professional stadiums watching her sons play sports. She enjoyed her trips to Florida visiting family and friends. Mary spent the last several years of her life in the comfort and care provided by the great staff and wonderful nuns at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Family and friends will be received 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Norvelt, 15674. The Panachida service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home followed by her Divine Liturgy at 11:15 in St. Mary's Byzantine Church with Rev. Paul-Alexander Shutt, OSB as celebrant. Interment to follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Trauger. A Parastas service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
