Obituary of Renald E Rinier

Renald "Renny" E. Rinier, 86, of Norvelt, passed away at Latrobe Select Specialty Hospital Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. He was born May 19, 1934, in Greensburg, a son of the late Peter and Julia Rinier. Renny was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United. He retired as a sheet metal worker from Overly's Manufacturing in Greensburg after 40 years. He was a member of the Norvelt Fire Department for over 43 years and served in many capacities during that time, including chief, assistant and trustee. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Township Lions Club. For many years he was a member of the Mohawks Association, where he served as a former Big Chief. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop No. 472 in Norvelt for over 20 years. He was a fan of the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates and especially loved Notre Dame football. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and immensely enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Renny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores, who passed away July 5, 2017, and his brother, Pete Rinier Jr., in September, 1946. He is survived by his six children, Roxanne Rinier, of Mt. Pleasant, Romayne Rinier, of Greensburg, Robin (Phillip) Gattens, of Delmont, Roberta (Michael) Hogan, of Greensburg, Rhonda (Douglas) Smith, of Greensburg and Renald M. Rinier, of Norvelt ; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Hogan and Nicholas and Jacob Smith; one brother, George Rinier (Anne) and one sister Marcia Little (Bob). Also surviving are several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Renny will be dearly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank Lisa Elias for her help in caring for Renny. Family and friends will be received in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt, Wednesday, March 3, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 4 at St. Florian Church, United, at 10 a.m. with Rev. John A. Sedlak Celebrant. Interment to follow at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery. The Mt. Pleasant Township Lions Club will gather in the funeral home Wednesday at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Florian Catholic Church, The Mt. Pleasant Township Lions Club or The Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department new building fund. "St. Padre Pio, bless us. Pray, hope and don't worry."The Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department will hold their service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, in the funeral home.
