Obituary of Wilmer L Young

Wilmer L. Young Unity Township Wilmer L. "Butch" Young, 73, of Unity Township, passed away at home. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021. He was born Feb. 23, 1948, in West Newton, and raised in Herminie. He was the son of the late Ayers Jr. and Roberta (Newberry) Young. Wilmer retired from Hempfield School District and he served during the Vietnam War in Germany for the Army. He was an avid trout fisherman, and he collected antique cars and international tractors. Wilmer was very meticulous in life, especially with his property. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Patty Dawson. Wilmer is survived by his loving wife, Geraldine (Johnston) Young; daughter, Jennifer (Marty) Fraicola, of Pleasant Unity; son, Jeffrey (Audrey) Young, of Latrobe; seven grandchildren, Thomas Fraicola (Miranda Sullenberger), Brianna (Dakota) Miller, Brittany, Brooke, Tyler, Shelby (Ron) Ross and Mercedes (Brady) Smith; three great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Raelyn and Crew; his brother, Jim (Alice) Young, of West Newton; and last but not least, his fur babies, Jewelz and Muffin. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt. Wilmer's funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry C McDonnell officiating. Interment will follow at Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Greensburg. Armbrust Veterans Association will accord military rites at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family is asking all memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
