Ronald Henry Somers, 82, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, in Excela Westmoreland Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was born Nov. 11, 1939, in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Henry and Jessie (Fullerton) Somers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Paul Somers and Henry Somers, and a son-in-law Phillip Ohl. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Anna Mary (Mondock) Somers; three children Cindy (Phillip) Ohl of Sarver, PA, Ronald (Kimberly) Somers of Winter Park, FL, and Scott (Stacy) Somers of New Stanton, PA; seven grandchildren Abigail, Slade, Shelby, Jessica, Frank, Jake and William. He is also survived by sister-in-law Debbie (Henry) Somers, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Betty Sue Mondock, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron was District Manager for Kelly & Cohen for more than 20 years and continued his career in appliance sales retiring from Sears in 2001. After retirement, Ron continued to enjoy working among friends transporting vehicles for ADESA New Stanton until 2019. Ron was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trauger. He took great pride in volunteering and serving others. As an outstanding member of the Mount Pleasant Township Lions Club since 1979, Ron served as past president and supported many committees and activities including White Cane collection, broom sales to support the Westmoreland County Blind Association, the fair stand at the Westmoreland County Fair, the local annual youth talent show, the Diabetes Research Project board, and recently received the Carl Shoemaker Fellowship Medal for his service to the PA Lions Beacon Lodge Camp to help blind and special needs children and adults. Ron was a member of Greensburg Lodge No. 225 F. & A.M. He was also a member and Past Master (1984) of Polaris Lodge No. 375 F. & A.M., McKeesport. Ron enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Norvelt Golf Club for over 60 years. He also loved Polka music. As a musician, he played in several Polka bands and enjoyed attending local Polka dances. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2021, at the Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home, 2245 Mt. Pleasant Road, Norvelt. A Lions Funeral Service will be held Friday at 6 p.m. followed by a Masonic Funeral Service at 6:30 p.m. Ron’s funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. in the Jay A. Hoffer Funeral Home with Reverend David L. Greer officiating. Intermittent will follow at Hillview Cemetery, Greensburg, PA. Masks are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mt.
